Mrs. Smith specializes in real property and commercial law. Mrs. Smith has advised developers of large residential and resort communities in Nassau and the Family Islands. Mrs. Smith also regularly acts on behalf of first time home buyers and commercial banks. In addition, Mrs. Smith has advised companies in the energy sector in The Bahamas.

Mrs. Smith has contributed greatly to recent legislation involving real property and development in The Bahamas. In particular, the contribution of Mrs. Smith to the Planning and Subdivision Act was recognized by Members of Parliament. Mrs. Smith has also contributed to the 2011 amendments to the Business License Act.

Mrs. Smith was called to the Bar of The Bahamas in 1998. She received a bachelors of law degree, with honours, from the University of Reading, Reading, England in 1997 and a Masters in International Business Law from the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, DC in 1999. While in Washington D.C., Mrs. Smith interned at one of the largest, international law firms.

Mrs. Smith is a Chartered Secretary and member of the London based Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. As a Chartered Secretary, Mrs. Smith is qualified in corporate law, finance, governance and business management.

An active member of the community, Mrs. Smith is a former director of the AIDS Foundation of The Bahamas. She has served as a legal advisor to the Health Professional Council and was appointed by the Government of The Bahamas to the National Bureau of Women’s Affairs. She is also a member of the Nassau Chapter of the Links, Incorporated and a director of Marathon Bahamas.
